Tulum is one of the last cities built in the Mayan empire before the Spanish arrived. It was built as an off-shoot of Coba. It is a port city and was a major hub for trade for the region. Tulum’s ruins are fairly well preserved. Its main buildings are its 25 foot tall (7.5 metre) central pyramid El Castillo, the Temple of The Descending God, and the Temple of Frescos. Tulum is a relatively small complex that can be easily visited in a few hours, unless you want to stay longer to enjoy the beach.
