Gran Cenote

Open Caverns Accessible For Swimmers & Snorkelers, Not Just Divers

Gran Cenote is a very popular spot for swimmers and snorkelers. Unlike some other sites where you need scuba equipment to get a good look at the caves, at Gran Cenote swimmers and snorkelers get excellent access to see inside the caverns. Inside the caverns there are impressive stalagmites, stalactites, and columns, with many bats and sparrows nesting and flying. In the crystal clear water there are freshwater turtles and fish. There are two separate caverns, offering you a good amount to explore for 1-2 hours.

Thousands Of Sparrows & Bats Nesting On Ceiling Of Caverns
Well Maintained Decking & Stairs

The site is very well appointed. There are decks and ladders and lockers. There are guide ropes in the water and inside the caverns. The parking area is only a 3 minute walk to the cenote entrance. There are showers and bathrooms and snorkeling rentals at the entrance. There is a covered area for eating and drinking and relaxing beside the cenote.

This is a perfect site for families.

The site can get a bit busy at times. Mornings are best.
